3 Key Steps to Plastic Design and Fabrication

Plastic moulding is a great way to get economically efficient plastic displays and other parts for industrial use.  The process for design and fabrication of these plastic displays is mostly done through a 3 stage process. If you want to get CNC routing and machining based products, then you need to know what this process is.

The 3 Step Process for Design and Fabrication of Plastic Displays

 Design

Designing is the first part of the process, and it involves the use of computer aided drawing (CAD) to create a digital diagram of the display item you want. A CAD professional will model the product and then feed the relevant data into the machinery which will then proceed to fabricate the product itself.

If you choose a good company, then they will take insights from you in creating the model and modify it accordingly. It is important to be involved in this part of the process and ensure you understand the dimensions of the product to be produced.

Mould Design

Mould design is cast from hardened metals templates. These “types” essentially dictate the final outcome of the moulding process itself. Now, depending upon your design model and its specifications, the moulds might be modified as much as possible. With CNC laser cutting, you can actually fabricate completely customized displays. This is great when you cannot find preset moulds for your specific display requirements and need a unique design and fabrication process.

Manufacturing

The final phase of the process involves actually manufacturing the moulded piece into its final form. Depending upon the type and properties of the material used, the manufacturing can involve many steps. The refinement can be done manually as well as through CAD based automated machines.

After the moulding has been produced in its final form, diamond polishers may be applied to provide a finishing to the product. This is done with particular plastic displays which must have a clear quality and edging to appear visually appealing to consumers.
